Library Policies
Library Mission:
The mission of the library program at Edison Elementary is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information, promote the enjoyment of literature and reading, and encourage life-long learning.
Library Program:
The Edison Elementary Library operates on a fixed schedule with an open access policy if students need to switch out or find new books. Students may come to the library during their set time to check out a book, research information, or read independently. Teachers work collaboratively with the librarian to schedule research and literature appreciation lessons and times. Students use research models for information seeking strategies.
Checkout:
All books have a two-week checkout time. Students in Kindergarten - 4th grade may check out one book at a time. Students in 5th grades may check out two books at a time.
Overdrive audio books are available for students in 3rd-5th grades to check out. Student use their student ID# and birthday to login and can search for multitudes of books! Overdrive books are automatically put back on the shelves after three weeks.
Damaged & Lost Book Policy:
Accidents happen! If a book accidentally becomes damaged, we ask that the student report the damage so we might try to repair the book. If a book page accidentally rips, please do not attempt to repair the book at home. We use special book tapes and glue, which resist heat and won’t discolor, and are better for the life of the book.
If a book becomes damaged beyond use or lost, we ask that the student pays the cost to replace the book so we can purchase that book again for our collection or work in the library to complete community service.
Note: please do not purchase a copy of the book on your own; we will go through proper library vendors in order to acquire the highest quality library-bound copy as a replacement.
